Warnowo 78 means everything to us.

It’s a return to our roots, to ourselves, to nature – it’s home. We created Warnowo 78 for ourselves – Astrid and Marek. But as we shaped this beautiful place, we realized something important: we couldn’t keep it to ourselves.

It felt selfish to hide a sanctuary like this – where nature still breathes freely – behind closed gates. So we built a second house on the property. A space to welcome you, our guests. Because beauty this rare is meant to be shared.

What is Warnowo 78 to us?

Can you really find paradise on Earth? Is it worth trading homes in Spain, Germany, and South Africa… for a house in Poland?
For us, the answer is simple: yes. Not only is it possible – it’s worth every moment.

And this is the story of how we found our own little paradise.

I met Astrid in Cape Town.

She is my love – my complement. Astrid is sunshine, wind in your hair, the spirit of the South. I’m from Kashubia, in northern Poland – grounded and pragmatic by nature. When we built our home in Warnowo, we wanted to merge our worlds – to blend the stories of our ancestors into something uniquely ours. At Warnowo 78, you’ll find echoes of the South: vineyards, travertine, limestone sculptures, and a sun-drenched pool. But you’ll also feel the North: red brick, native Polish plants, simplicity, warmth and thoughtful design.

Location

Warnowo (formerly: Warnow in German) is a small village in Poland’s West Pomeranian Voivodeship, nestled in the buffer zone of Wolin National Park, right in the heart of Wolin Island. Though peaceful and remote, Warnowo is easily accessible – there’s a local train station with regular connections between Szczecin and Świnoujście. The village has a small grocery store, and you’ll find a wider selection in nearby Wisełka.

A Place Steeped in History

The Warnowo area has been inhabited since the Bronze Age and the Lusatian culture period.In the 9th and 10th centuries, a Slavic stronghold stood on the peninsula of Lake Warnowo Zachodnie. The first written mention of the village dates back to 1596, when Prince John Frederick of Szczecin built a castle here.
According to local lore – and the former owner of our house – the grounds of Warnowo 78 were once home to a monastery for women.

And the name?

It all starts with a bird. While the Polans said “crow,” the Pomeranians used the word “warna.” And so the village came to be known as Warnowo – the place of crows.
