Turquoise Lake – also called Emerald Lake.
Often named the most beautiful lake in Wolin National Park – a truly unique natural gem.
Just 7 km from Międzyzdroje, near the village of Wapnica. The lake owes its vibrant turquoise-green color to sunlight reflecting off the white chalk bottom. This artificial lake was once a chalk quarry, active until 1954.
Over the next six years, rainwater slowly filled the pit. By 1960, the water level matched that of the Szczecin Lagoon.
Walk time & route
A full walk around the lake takes around 40 minutes. The whole trip – through an ancient beech forest – can last 1 to 3 hours, depending on your pace.
Trails & viewpoints
A blue-marked hiking trail circles the lake and leads to Zielonka Hill, offering stunning views of the Szczecin Lagoon and the Baltic Sea. Another peaceful lookout is Piaskowa Góra.
Parking
There’s a paid car park right by the lake. Or drive a little further – free parking is available near the local school.

Trails are best explored on foot. Bikes can access only certain paths due to the terrain. Access with strollers or wheelchairs is limited.
